Dear ESB.
I thought I’d drop a short email following the annual conference – there’s 3 main items:
1. Annual Conference
* I want to say a huge thank you for being the very embodiment of an active and participatory Board throughout the planning, execution and commercial support of the conference. Your support and help throughout has been palpable and I am very grateful for all the help, support and contributions made… ‘thank you’.
* We’ve received a great deal of positive feedback – during and after the event. I’ll hold off reaching a conclusion until after we’ve collected feedback from the surveys and report back in due course - watch out for the follow-up email from the team coming shortly.
* As expected, the internal team worked really hard to deliver a quality event we can be proud of and support our aspiration of being the home of IoT security. This year we have faced additional challenges with staff changes and a very tough business environment. This side of the conference, I feel very proud of the quality of the content and delivery we have achieved together… it’s not done yet – there’s more content to tidy up and post-event actions to be completed.
2. 2024
* Our first ESB meeting for the New Year will be on January 25th. Details are yet to be determined but I am hoping a face meeting will be possible as I’d like to get the year off to a good start with some goal-setting/strategy/decisions/actions.
* That process starts now – I’d like you to start gathering your thoughts and, as desired, perhaps sharing them with me/ESB as they occur so we’re in a good position by January.
* One specific item will be #IoTSF24 – it’ll be our 10th anniversary conference and we’d like it to be memorable… the best ever. Your views are always welcome. We have placed a preliminary booking for the IET again for a day w/c Oct 21 – I need to check but I believe they only had Oct 24th available hence date/venue t.b.c.
3. What else?
* I am delighted to tell you that we have been successful in the project proposal on the subject of a Trusted AI Bill of Materials (TAIBOM) following the webinar/workshop we ran earlier this year. All credit and kudos to Nick Allot for leading/driving this – I look forward to reminding myself what we put in the plan starting next week and making some public announcements!
* Finally, I hope that you will be able to make the TechWorks annual dinner on Dec 7th in Manchester. Please let me know if you can so I know how many will be on our table.
And finally, on a more personal note, over the years we’ve worked together, I feel a strong sense of camaraderie amongst the ESB, our members, our new IoTSF team and even some of our formal stakeholders. During the conference, several people told me that IoTSF is different to many other organisations they are part of - in a more personal/inviting way. Challenges aside, I know it’s a view I am easily receptive to because that is what I hoped to achieve from day 1. I sincerely hope that you feel the same way.
That’s all for now – I look forward to speaking with you / seeing some of you before the year is out.
Sincere regards,
John Moor
